Why the Present Moment Is Key To Your Health
I’ve become aware that the mental habit of wandering in the past or the future is one of the biggest things holding us back when it comes to our health.
We live in a highly distracting world so it requires real mental and emotional muscle not to get caught up in thinking how life should be or should have been.
But the powerful truth is that no matter how out-of-control your day is, no matter how stressful your job or life becomes, the act of being present can become an oasis. It can change your life.
The present moment is truly our greatest point of personal power because it’s the only thing that’s real.
For me, especially this past couple years, I have found that one of the best methods to deal with serious challenges was to put myself in the present moment as much as possible.
Worrying happens when we’re caught up in the future or the past but especially when we’re dealing with situations we can’t control.
And yes, pain, fear or uncertainty are certainly legitimate reasons to feel out of sorts.
But you can consciously decide to not let them consume you to the point that the stress derails your happiness.
Using tools like deep breathing, meditation, a great workout or a walk in nature has allowed me to feel more empowered in my situation simply by taking things moment by moment.
It takes effort and a real commitment to learn to live with more presence, but the benefits of not being a slave to our minds are priceless.
