The Power of Positive Emotions
“Choose to be optimistic, it feels better.” -Dalai Lama
There is no longer any doubt that what happens in our mind, happens in our body. Studies show that actively cultivating positive emotions, especially when facing a health crisis, can boost the immune system. In fact, there are indisputable links between having an optimistic atttitude and a long list of health benefits including lower blood pressure, less heart disease, healthier blood sugar levels, bettter weight control, and longevity.
What science agrees on is that our central nervous system function, cardiovascular health, immunity, and endocrine physiology are all involved in stress responses.
Seen in this light, the ability to control one’s emotions and cultivate a positive mindset is an essential endeavor if we want to take charge of our health and well being.
And the wonderful news is that positive emotional responses can be learned, just like any other healthy habit. There are endless methods to learn how to regulate our emotional balance and cope better with the adversity in our lives.
Yes, we need to nourish ourselves with wholesome food, proper rest and physical activity but we need to remember that our body responds to the way we think and feel.
Self awareness is therefore our superpower when it comes to taking charge of our health.
It’s why I am so passionate about sharing research-backed mindfulness based strategies in my health coaching practice like meditation, yoga, gratitude, self acceptance and self compassion.
When we feel, we heal…on ALL levels of our being.
