The Healing Powers of Being In Nature
There is an ever growing body of research that shows how being outdoors in nature has substantial healing benefits for the body and mind.
1) Lowers stress related hormones cortisol and adrenaline
2) Decreases blood pressure and inflammation
3) Reduces risk for anxiety and depression
4) Improves cognition, memory, mental focus
5) Speeds healing and immune system response
How does that work? A lot of it has to do with the conductive support that the earth’s electromagnetic field provides us. Known as the Schumann Resonance, this frequency grounds every cell in our body when we physically touch the earth directly, putting everything from our brain waves to our heartbeat into a natural healing state.
I know for me whether it’s sitting in my backyard staring up at the trees and sky, hiking with my dog, camping in the Catskils or sailing on the Hudson, being in nature is truly my happy place.
It grounds me in my body, enlivens my senses, fills me with gratitude and most of all reminds me how I’m connected to something so much bigger.
Being nature is the antedote for all the Zoom meetings and 24-7 plugged in living that keeps us increasingly disconnected from the magic and beauty that’s all around us.
And right now in this extraordinary time, where all kinds of stress is wreaking havoc on our immune system, mood and mental health, there’s never been a better time and more pressing need for the benefits of the natural world.
Studies show that about 2 hours a week outdoors (that can be broken down into just 20 minutes a day!) is the key threshold to receive significant physical, mental and emotional benefits.
Totally doable right?
I truly hope that you’re newly inspired to engage with the healing wonders of our precious earth mother.
